(Fort Lauderdale, FL) - The Broward County school board considering a pause on the full-scale implementation of mandatory teacher use of MagicSchool AI.
Board member Adam Cervera submitted a request that the board shelve all AI instructional platforms until the district completes a written review and the board publicly approves appropriate safeguards.
The main concerns include student data privacy, legal compliance, cybersecurity review, and content guardrails.
Also, the need to assess testing results, teacher autonomy, screen time and educational impact.
Broward Schools decided to purchase MagicSchool AI three months ago using a $1.2 million donation.
The new program was touted as an aid to help educators plan lessons, communicate with parents, and simplify teaching tasks to save time.
