Suspect Arrested Following DUI Crash Involving Child at School Bus Stop

Haines City, FL - A suspected drunk driver is facing DUI charges after hitting a 6-year-old getting off a school bus in Polk County.

Authorities say the 6-year-old child was injured after being struck by the vehicle on April 17th around 4:15 p.m.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced the arrest of 67-year-old Robert Reedy from Winter Haven on charges of DUI with injury/damage, DUI, and reckless driving.

Sheriff Judd reports that Reedy passed a stopped school bus on the right side, drove onto the grass, and struck the child as they were exiting the bus.

The child was treated at the hospital and later released.

No further details regarding the child's condition have been provided.

Sheriff Judd stated that Reedy remained at the scene and a breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.16, which is double the legal limit.

Reedy was arrested but has since been released on $3,000 bond.

He is scheduled for a court appearance later this week.
