Deputy Faces Charges for Abusing Law Enforcement Database

Key West, FL - A Monroe County Sheriff's deputy facing burglary charges for harassing his ex-girlfriend is now facing additional charges after illegally using law enforcement computers to stalk her new partner.

Authorities say Monroe County Sheriff's Office Deputy Alexander Morales faces additional charges stemming from a previous arrest for burglary and criminal mischief.

Morales, who was arrested on April 15th, is now accused of four counts of unauthorized computer access.

Investigators allege Morales misused law enforcement computer systems to obtain information regarding his ex-girlfriend's new partner.

According to a newly released arrest warrant, Morales accessed the Florida Criminal Information Center/National Criminal Information Center database (FCIC/NCIC) to check the license plate and personal details of the man.

This occurred both before and after a break-in at his ex-girlfriend's residence in Key West.

The arrest warrant details a prior romantic relationship between Morales and the victim, lasting a year and a half before ending two months ago.

Surveillance footage captured Morales, off-duty and in a marked patrol car, parking near the victim's home.

Investigators allege he accessed the FCIC/NCIC system immediately before exiting the vehicle.

Authorities allege Morales then broke into the residence through a bedroom window while the victim and her partner were inside.

Morales is accused of filming them with his phone and attempting to speak with his ex-girlfriend.

Following the incident, Morales allegedly accessed the FCIC/NCIC once again to inquire about the victim's partner.

He was subsequently arrested by Key West Police.

Morales has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

An internal investigation is ongoing alongside pre-termination employment hearings.

Online jail records show Morales was initially released on a $110,000 bond after his first arrest.

Following the new charges, his bond is set at $100,000 and he remains in custody at the MCSO Key West jail facility.

An arraignment hearing is scheduled for May 3rd.
