(Davie, FL) -- Governor Ron DeSantis in Davie today to sign legislation protecting Florida's natural resources like the Everglades and Lake Okeechobee.

He says the state has budgeted billions to protect the waterways that are so important to our quality of life and our state's economy.

"We have pledged $3.5 billion over the next four years for Everglades restoration and protection of our water quality. Since 2019, the state has completed or started 65 Everglades projects," DeSantis proclaimed.

DeSantis said the bulk of the revenue, $750 million a year, from the gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe is going to conserve Florida's waterways.

Marcellus Osceola Jr., chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, attended the bill signing and said, "The State and the Seminoles are great partners, and we are both here to stay."

According to DeSantis, the bill he signed today will provide an additional $150 million for repairs and upgrades to central and south Florida water management systems.
