LISTEN: St. Pete Hosts New Florida Human Trafficking Research Lab

LISTEN to an interview with lab director Dr Joan Reid:

ST. PETERSBURG -- A new lab opening in St Petersburg will serve as a focal point for statewide efforts against human trafficking.

The goals of the USF Trafficking in Persons - Risk to Resilience Lab include centralizing data on trafficking in Florida. Right now there is no central database that allows police to track, for example, hotspots around the state and support more specific intervention strategies. Director Joan Reid, an associate professor in criminology at USF-St Petersburg, says they also want to create a fast response care network where victims "can get real life saving services when they need them, not two or three days later."
