Tampa Teen Twitter Hacker Gets Three Years in Juvenile Lockup

TAMPA -- The teenage mastermind of a celebrity Twitter hack that scammed unsuspecting followers out of more than $100,000 has agreed to a plea deal. Graham Clark, now 18, will serve three years in a juvenile facility and three years' probation, the maximum under Florida's Youthful Offender Act.

Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren says the sentence holds Clark accountable and allows him to get his life back on track.

Clark used Twitter accounts of former President Obama, SpaceX founder Elon Musk and others to solicit Bitcoin payments last July.

Warren says the FBI was able to track down the money and it will be returned to contributors.

The prosecution of Clark was part of a nationwide investigation that involved several federal agencies.
