DeSantis: Can't Stop CVS From Vaccinating Teachers Under 50

CRYSTAL RIVER -- Speaking at a pop-up vaccination site, Governor Ron DeSantis said he can't stop a drugstore chain from offering vaccines to teachers under 50, which goes against Florida guidelines.

DeSantis responded to a reporter's question, saying that he still believes prioritizing by age is a better way to distributed COVID-19 vaccinations. "If you're 25, you're at less risk than someone who's 80... that's the bottom line," DeSantis said.

But he acknowledged that the federal government has set its own rules for the vaccines showing up at certain CVS drugstores. "The age based approach is the most effective to reduce mortality. At the same time, the federal government is the one sending us the vaccine. If they want to make it for all ages, they have the ability to do that.

DeSantis also responded to a Miami Herald story about a wealthy community in the Keys that received COVID vaccines in January before much of the state. The governor calls the story "factually wrong" an an "attempt to manufacture a narrative." DeSantis says the January vaccinations were sponsored through a hospital and the state was not involved.
