Titusville, FL - Federal authorities are investigating the death of an 18-year-old high school cheerleader who died while on a family cruise in the Caribbean.
According to officials, the victim, identified as Anna Kepner of Titusville, Florida, was pronounced dead aboard the Carnival Horizon on the morning of November 7th during a six-day voyage.
Her father, Christopher Kepner, said the family has not been told what led to her death and remains uncertain about the direction of the investigation.
He said everyone on board was questioned after the ship returned to port, but the FBI has not provided the family with any details.
The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office listed Kepner’s time of death as 11:17 a.m. but has not released a cause of death or further information.
The Carnival Horizon was rerouted to the Port of Miami following the incident.
The FBI, which has jurisdiction over deaths occurring in international waters, confirmed that an investigation is underway but has not disclosed additional findings.
Kepner was a senior at Temple Christian School in Titusville and was preparing to graduate in May.
Her family said she was active in cheerleading and gymnastics and had recently completed testing to join the military.
Her father said the family is avoiding online speculation about the case and is waiting for official updates from investigators.
