Toxic blue-green algae has been discovered in a Port St. Lucie lake.

City leaders say water tests show the presence of the algae in a body of water where more than 1500 dead fish have been removed.

Florida Fish and Wildlife believes low dissolved oxygen levels in the lake likely caused the fish kill.

The lake is inside the Sawgrass Lakes community, where a homeowners' meeting is scheduled for this evening. A City Councilmember will provide residents with an update.
