Senator Rick Scott, (R-FL) joins Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) in an effort to get a citizenship question included on all future censuses.

Sen. Scott and others re-introduced the Equal Representation Act which would determine how political power is allocated in America by prohibiting non-U.S. citizens from being included in the population count.

The measure would make sure that non-citizens are not included in the population count used for Electoral College votes and Congressional district apportionments.

Sen. Scott says the act also prevents sanctuary states that shelter illegal aliens from gaining increased influence in Washington.

Senator Scott stated, “Illegal aliens shouldn’t be allowed to break the law and be rewarded with taxpayer-funded benefits, and states that shelter them shouldn’t gain increased influence in Washington as a result.” He argues that this bill would “ensure that every citizen’s vote carries equal weight.”

Co-sponsors of the legislation include Senators Katie Britt (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Hoeven (R-ND), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Jim Justice (R-WV), James Lankford (R-OK), Mike Lee (R-UT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Jim Risch (R-ID), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Rick Scott (R-FL), Tim Sheehy (R-MT), and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL).
