(Miami, FL) - The Board of Education appointing a new education commissioner to replace outgoing Manny Diaz who is expected to head the University of West Florida. The governor recommended his deputy chief of staff Anastasios Kamoutsas, known as Stasi, was also General Counsel for the Education Department.

Kamoutsas joined the governor's team in 2019 as a legal official assisting DeSantis in education and law enforcement implementation.

He championed school choice and parental rights as a part of the DeSantis administration.

He grew up in Miami-Dade County and attended public school. He said he hopes his story inspires students currently going to school in Florida.

"I want them to know anything is possible." said Kamoutsas.

Kamoutsas' appointment will be confirmed pending Diaz's confirmation as president of UWF.
