FLORIDA - A new survey reveals that three historic Florida cemeteries are among the most desired final resting places in the U.S. due to their beauty, cultural significance, and unique character.
While Florida is often praised for its beaches and tourist attractions, a recent survey by Choice Mutual reveals a more unexpected draw, cemeteries that top the list of dream burial sites.
Leading the way in Florida is Key West City Cemetery, known for its unique epitaphs, tropical setting, and the island’s offbeat “Conch” culture.
Its colorful character has made it both a tourist destination and a preferred eternal home for many.
Next is the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, located just north of Tampa.
This sprawling site is reserved for veterans and their families and is recognized for its peaceful southern landscape and solemn tribute to service members.
Its military heritage makes it one of the most meaningful burial options in the state.
Rounding out the list is Huguenot Cemetery in St. Augustine.
Although closed since the late 1800s, its historical significance and haunted reputation keep it firmly in public imagination.
Established in 1821 as the first public cemetery for non-Catholics in the area, it's now a focal point for ghost tours and local lore.
The report notes that people choose burial sites for their beauty, location, and cultural connections, with some preferring proximity to legends like Elvis Presley in Memphis or Abraham Lincoln in Illinois.
Topping the national list was Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama, prized for its Gothic architecture and historic charm.
The findings show that where we choose to rest can be as personal and meaningful as how we live.
