West Palm Beach, FL - Authorities in Palm Beach County are investigating a fatal confrontation early Saturday morning that left a father and son dead following a domestic disturbance involving a sword.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to a home on the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive around 3 a.m. after receiving a call about a violent domestic incident.
When deputies arrived, they allegedly found a man in his twenties actively stabbing his 52-year-old father with a sword.
Deputies ordered the suspect several times to drop the weapon, according to officials.
When he allegedly failed to comply, one deputy opened fire, striking the man.
Paramedics were immediately called to the scene, but both the father and son died from their injuries, authorities confirmed.
Investigators have not released the names of either individual pending family notification.
The reason behind the altercation remains unknown, and authorities have not disclosed any further details about the lead-up to the deadly encounter.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will lead the investigation into the deputy’s use of force, following standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
Meanwhile, the deputy who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave while the case is reviewed.
Officials urged anyone with information related to the case to contact Crime Stoppers or the FDLE.
Additional updates will be provided as the investigation moves forward.
