FLORIDA - Floridians are enjoying a welcome break at the pump as average gas prices across the state have dropped below $3 per gallon, the lowest they've been since December of 2023.
According to AAA, the statewide average as of Sunday hit $2.97 per gallon, down slightly from the previous 2024 low and significantly lower than prices seen at this time last year.
Drivers are now spending about $44.55 to fill a standard 15-gallon tank, which is $8.25 less than what they paid a year ago.
More than 70% of gas stations in Florida are currently offering fuel for under $3 a gallon, a trend largely driven by falling oil prices and a strong output from gasoline refineries.
“Low oil prices and robust gasoline production have helped bring pump prices down to levels we haven’t seen in more than a year,” said Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA.
However, Jenkins cautioned that the downward trend may be short-lived.
Seasonal factors like refinery maintenance, increasing demand during spring travel, and the switch to summer-grade fuel could all lead to price hikes in the coming weeks.
Florida's average remains well below the national average, which currently sits at $3.12 per gallon.
