A South Florida Democrat is blasting President Trump for his executive order indicating his desire to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

"This is not theoretical. The president has dismantled the Department of Education. It is up to the Congress, but he did it."

West Palm Beach Congresswoman Lois Frankel says the president broke the law with his order.

That is also the claim of a lawsuit filed today by a coalition of groups, including a nationwide teachers union and the NAACP, that says Trump exceeded his constitutional authority.

Frankel says the move will result in hundreds of millions of dollars in education funding being swept away in Palm Beach County alone.

But Education Secretary Linda McMahon contends that many of the programs the department currently funds will be transferred to other agencies.

Rep. Frankel held a press conference in front of Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. She was joined by Palm Beach School Board members Edwin Ferguson and Virginia Savietto.
