Miami Gardens, FL - With the Orange Bowl just days away, South Florida law enforcement is stepping up security preparations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for thousands of fans and visitors.
The heightened vigilance comes after the devastating New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans, where a man plowed a truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, tragically killing 14 people.
Miami Beach is set to become a bustling hub of activity, with large crowds expected for the Orange Bowl pep rally on Lincoln Road next Wednesday.
While no specific threats have been identified for Miami Beach, authorities are not taking any chances.
Security efforts include deploying a dozen drones to monitor crowds from above, as well as stationing SWAT teams and tactical units on standby to quickly respond if needed.
The festivities will culminate with the Orange Bowl Fan Fest on Thursday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m., and attendees can expect a visible police presence, as well as K-9 units conducting thorough sweeps before fans take their seats.
Although Miami-Dade Police have kept specific security details under wraps, officials assure fans that rigorous precautions are being taken.
In a social media statement, Miami-Dade Police urged the public to remain watchful, stating, “MDPD will continue actively monitoring and assessing intelligence for any potential threats. If you see something suspicious, SAY something.”
The tragedy in New Orleans, which occurred just before the Sugar Bowl, has prompted law enforcement agencies nationwide to reassess their strategies for major events.
The Orange Bowl Committee issued a statement expressing solidarity with the New Orleans community, saying it is “deeply saddened and horrified” by the incident and extending thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
