A retired Air Force sergeant is accused of using a phone app to alter photos of underage children who are his relatives.
The app uses artificial intelligence, and federal prosecutors say 64-year old Dennis Houchin made it appear that the victims were nude.
Houchin was arrested by Indian River County Sheriff's deputies back in June, initially charged with eleven counts of child porn possession, but those charges were later dropped and this morning he was arraigned on new charges of use of a minor in materials harmful to a minor.
"I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. AI could be used for a plethora of criminal offenses."
Criminal defense attorney Patrick McKamey tells CBS 12 News that the technology is a slippery slope, calling artificial intelligence very dangerous.
Tech expert Craig Agranoff says parents may want to stop posting photos of their kids or at least limiting who can see those photos.
"In today's world, even if you're monitoring where your children are and where they're spending their time online, somebody else can just grab a normal photo that you posted of them and ater it many disgusting ways."
He suggests parents set limits as to who can see photos online.
