(Hialeah, Fla) - An 8th grade honor student pleads not guilty to stabbing his own mother to death in their Hialeah apartment.
13-year-old Derek Rosa is being tried as an adult on first degree murder charges.
Police say he allegedly killed his mother with a kitchen knife as his newborn sister slept nearby.
He then reportedly sent photos of the bloody body to a friend on social media.
Rosa is too young to face the death penalty in Florida so if convicted he could be sentenced to life in prison.
