Florida Man Arrested for Bizarre Boat Burglary in Punta Gorda Heist

Punta Gorda, FL - A 75-year-old man was arrested last week after he attempted to steal items from a boat before defecating on the vessel's dock and fleeing the scene.

On September 17th, the Punta Gorda Police Department received a call regarding a boat burglary at Laishley Park Marina.

According to police, the victim reported an attempted robbery onboard their vessel that was captured by security cameras.

Officers were informed that the suspect had also engaged in peculiar behavior by defecating on the boat's dock during the robbery.

Responding officers identified the suspect as 75-year-old Michael Paul Wierzbicki Sr., who was found sitting on one of the marina's benches.

Surveillance footage captured Wierzbicki boarding the boat at approximately 5:22 a.m. while the victim was asleep.

Wierzbicki was filmed rummaging through the victim's belongings at the rear of the boat.

Although Wierzbicki didn't steal anything, the recording did capture him defecating on the dock in front of the vessel.

Wierzbicki was arrested and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.

While in custody, officers received a report of a theft involving an unoccupied car.

Officers met with the victim who informed them that her car, which had been parked on Taylor Road, was burglarized overnight.

The victim provided descriptions of the missing items, and officers were able to match those descriptions to photos of items found in Wierzbicki's possession during his arrest.

Wierzbicki has been charged with two counts of unarmed burglary of an occupied conveyance and one count of first-degree theft.
