Seminole County, FL - A Seminole County detective is arrested for allegedly tipping off suspects in undercover investigations, compromising the integrity of the Crimes Against Children Unit and endangering the safety of other detectives involved in the operations
A shocking development emerged on Thursday when a Seminole County detective was apprehended on accusations of tipping off suspects during undercover operations, as per statements from the sheriff's office.
The detective in question, Jose Tirado, had been a member of the Crimes Against Children Unit within the sheriff's office since 2015. However, authorities discovered that Tirado covertly alerted suspects who were making arrangements to meet minors for illicit activities. Unbeknownst to the suspects, the "minors" they were attempting to contact were actually fellow detectives operating undercover personas, ensuring no real children were involved in the operations.
The sheriff's office expressed grave concern over Tirado's actions, as his warnings enabled the suspects to evade arrest, potentially endangering other detectives involved in these operations.
Following a comprehensive investigation into the matter, Tirado was suspended on April 21, with the agency initiating a criminal probe into his actions.
Sheriff Dennis Lemma condemned Tirado's alleged misconduct, highlighting the severity of the situation given the detective's responsibilities in safeguarding children from criminal abuse and exploitation. Lemma emphasized that Tirado's actions inadvertently assisted those seeking to victimize children by allowing them to evade accountability and prosecution.
In response to the arrest, Tirado was taken into custody and transported to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility. He now faces multiple charges, including five counts of unlawful use of a two-way communication device, five counts of disclosure or use of confidential criminal justice information, and five counts of unlawful use of a computer, network, or electronic device, resulting in the disruption of governmental operations. His bond has been set at $65,000.
Sheriff Lemma acted swiftly, commencing the process to terminate Tirado from his position within the sheriff's office immediately upon his arrest. This measure reflects the gravity of the allegations and the commitment to maintain the integrity and trustworthiness of the law enforcement agency.
The community is left with deep concern and dismay over the alleged actions of a detective sworn to protect and serve, and authorities remain resolute in their dedication to uphold justice and accountability in the face of such misconduct.
