Cold Weather Shelters to Open in Hillsborough and Pinellas

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Hillsborough County's cold weather shelters program will be activated for two nights this weekend, including tonight (Friday) and tomorrow, as low temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 30's or low 40's. All shelters will accept guests from 6 pm until 8 pm unless they reach capacity prior to that time.

Shelters available include:

Amazing Love Ministries, 3304 E. Columbus Dr, Tampa

Church of God of Prophecy Hyde Park, 107 S. Oregon Ave, Tampa

Greater New Hope Church Anointed Ministries (Prayer Retreat Center), 2104 Mud Lake Rd, Plant City

Homeless Helping Homeless, 3008 N. Nebraska Ave, Tampa

Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt St, Tampa

New Life Church in Tampa (pet friendly) 8216 N. 13th St, Tampa

Tampa Bay Mission of Hope, 212 S. St. Cloud Ave, Building A, Valrico

Metropolitan Ministries and Generations Renewed are supplying a limited number of single-night motel vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis for families with minor children. All congregate shelters are reserved for adults only. Pre-registration is required by calling the numbers below. Phone lines turn on at 9 a.m., and the deadline to call is 5 p.m.

PINELLAS COUNTY

Cold night shelters in Pinellas County will be open on Friday night, Jan. 13, and Saturday night, Jan. 14, the Homeless Leadership Alliance has announced.

The shelters will open at the times shown below.

Shelter guests are accepted until the shelter is full. All sites provide a warm and safe place to sleep, and many sites also serve a meal. Shelters are activated when the National Weather Service expects the “feels like” temperature to hit 40 degrees or below across the county between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The following cold weather shelters are available to adult men and women:

Boys & Girls Club Address: 111 W. Lime Street, Tarpon Springs Hours: 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.

First United Methodist Church of Clearwater Address: 411 Turner Street, Clearwater Hours: 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.

The Refuge Outreach Church Address: 606 Alden Avenue, Clearwater Hours: 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Boys & Girls Club Address: 7790 61st Street North, Pinellas Park

Salvation Army Address: 1400 4th Street South, St Petersburg Hours: 6 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Families with children will be placed in family shelters on cold nights (if space is available).
