Local law enforcement and health officials are doing everything they can to prevent this year's Biketoberfest- underway in Volusia County- from becoming a dreaded superspreader event for the coronavirus.
"We ask that you wear your mask," Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri said. "Social distance when practical- probably going to be hard to do considering the bars are open- there's going to be people in tight places. Wash your hands and ride safely."
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says take it from him- you need to do all you can to protect yourself from COVID-19.
"Having had it- and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies," Sheriff Chitwood said, "it is a highly communicable disease, so if you're coming, and we want you to come, you need to be cognizant of that and if you're going to be in a jam-packed room- wear a mask."
Biketoberfest runs through Sunday.
