Orlando Mayor Testifies Before Congress about Restaurant Biz

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer is talking directly to members of Congress, asking them to send help to the nation's restaurant operators.

Dyer testified to a House subcommittee, asking them to put politics aside and pass a stimulus package for the food business.

Dyer says restaurant operators need forgivable loans and tax credits that help keep the doors open. He says most restaurants in the Orlando area have laid off a third of their work forces and spent their savings just to keep the lights on.

Dyer was one of several politicians and small business owners to testify remotely to the committee. Both the House and Senate are considering new stimulus packages but they are bogged down by ideological and political divides.

On Friday, Governor DeSantis announced that the state would be going into "Phase Three," allowing bars and restaurants to reopen without restrictions. Still, many businesses may still be restricted by county and city ordinances.
