The Florida Highway Patrol is releasing the name of the man who was shot and killed by a trooper.
Investigators say a patrolman tried to pull over 33-year old Steve Gilbert for reckless driving along I-95 in Delray Beach Tuesday evening. The driver didn't pull over, prompting a short chase that led off the Interstate and onto Atlantic Avenue.
According to the report, after Gilbert crashed into another vehicle, he got out of his car and opened fire on FHP troopers. One fired back, killing Gilbert.
Authorities found a rifle and handgun at the scene.
The trooper, who has not been identified, is on administrative leave. The agency says that is standard procedure.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
