Lawmaker Sues Over Hillsborough Mask Rule

TAMPA -- A member of the state legislature is suing to overturn the emergency mask rule in Hillsborough County.

State Representative Anthony Sabatini of Lake County says local mask ordinances are a violation of civil liberties, privacy laws, and equal protection.

"They're using emergency to jam down new rules and laws that have nothing to do with health and safety," Sabatini said.

Another lawsuit claims the mandate unfairly targets businesses. Members of the Hillsborough Emergency Policy Group discussed easing some of the burden on businesses... which face a second degree misdemeanor charge for mask violations... but took no action Monday.

Also at Monday's Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group meeting, members voted unanimously to exclude children under 18 participating in sports and other youth activities from the mask requirement, copying a similar provision from Pinellas County.
