South Florida Nurse Dies After Exposure To COVID-19

A nurse who was exposed to COVID-19 patients at a South Florida hospital has died.

33-year old Danielle DiCenso's husband believes she contracted the coronavirus at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah. She came down with symptoms in late March and died in her sleep last week at her Wellington home.

David DiCenso says the hospital didn't provide her with the proper personal protective equipment.

"She went to work one day and they didn't have a mask for her. That was what bothered me the most is that she was scared to go to work."

The man is upset, while he awaits word on a cause of death from the medical examiner's office.

"It's like sending military troops to war without any ammunition or Kevlar."

The woman's test results were inconclusive.

DiCenso and the couple's four year old son are awaiting their test results.

A spokeswoman for Palmetto General released this statement:

“Nurses are provided appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. We are very focused on minimizing staff exposure in our hospital. All employees at our hospital are temperature checked upon arrival, wear a mask during patient care and are required to notify employee health if they become symptomatic. They are not permitted to work in the hospital caring for patients if exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.”

The family has created a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs and their son Dominic's college fund.
