1 Woman Saved From SUV In Canal, Another Woman Dies In Similar Crash

Car in Canal in Boca Raton

Two vehicles plunged into Palm Beach County waterways over the weekend...one incident proved fatal.

36-year old Lola-Anne Thompson of Lake Worth Beach died after driving her Jeep into the Intracoastal in Boynton Beach on Saturday night.

Another woman survived after driving her car into a canal near Boca Raton.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to reports of a car in a canal off Camino Real and Military Trail on Sunday. Rescue crews arrived to find the SUV partially submerged in water and the driver on the bank of the canal.

Turns out, Good Samaritan, Shawn Turner, had jumped into the water and pulled the woman from the vehicle, with the help of others.

"When I got out of the truck, I asked if anybody had seen somebody in the car. They said there was somebody in the car. I know cars don't float long, so I jumped in as quick as possible."

Divers searched the vehicle and found nobody else inside.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where her condition is unknown.
