Special Needs Students Escorted To Their Prom By Police Officers

Members of the Boynton Beach Police Department are gearing up for the Prom.

"They came to the police department last week and asked us to go the Prom with them again this year."

Police spokesperson Stephanie Slater is talking about special needs students from John I. Leonard High School. It's the second year in a row the department is doing this, thanks to a retired officer who is still on the staff.

"His wife is their teacher. We coordinated with her and the students came with a beautiful card and a poem that they had written, and they asked us to the Prom."

Stephanie says eight officers and other staff members will be going to the Prom at the Kravis Center Saturday night, accompanied by 8 to 9 students.

The kids' Prom tickets were paid for by Beck's Towing & Recovery in Boynton Beach, who donated $750 so the students would get in for free.
