For the second year in a row, the host of the annual Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center in New York City will be Kelly Clarkson. The singer and daytime TV talk show host made the announcement earlier this week on NBC's "The Kelly Clarkson Show." Clarkson also said this year's ceremony, set for December 4th, will feature the best music and star-studded surprises, along with the lighting of the world-famous tree. Clarkson didn't say whether she would also sing, like she did when she hosted the ceremony for the first time last year. No word yet either on what the musical lineup will be.
It's a space first: the world's first satellite made of wood. The palm-sized satellite, built by Japanese researchers, will be released into orbit from the International Space Station about 250 miles above Earth. It'll stay in orbit for several months to see how wood endures the extreme environment of space. The invention is an early test of using wood in Mars and lunar exploration and if it's successful, it could open the door to other uses for wood in space.
