Rays Snap Skid With Win Over Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (53-36) defeated the New York Yankees (50-41) 6-4 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. With the win, the Rays have snapped their three-game skid and evened the three-game series with New York.

Victor Mesa Jr hit a solo homer in the second inning before Yandy Diaz had a RBI single to make it 2-0. The Yankees had an answer in the third when Ben Rice hit a three-run homer to give New York a 3-2 lead, before the Rays would answer.

In the fourth Richie Palacios hit a RBI double to tie the game 3-3, before the Rays got back-to-back homers from Hunter Feduccia (a two-run shot) and Yandy Diaz) a solo shot to give the Rays a 6-3 lead. Yandy finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. New York got one back in the seventh to pull within 6-4, but that would be as close as they would get.

Ian Seymour (6-1, 4.11) got the win after pitching five and one-third innings in which he allowed three earned runs on five hits while striking out twelve and walking none. The pitching staff combined to strike out seventeen Yankees and walking none - it was the second straight night Tampa Bay pitching struck out seventeen. Bryan Baker allowed just one hit in a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 24th save of the season.

The Rays and Yankees now meet in game three of the four-game series coming up on Wednesday night. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
