The Detroit Tigers (23-38) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (36-21) 10-9 on Monday night at Tropicana Field.
The Tigers struck with two runs in the first and built leads of 6-0, 8-2 and 10-5 in this one. The Rays were able to rally with four in the eighth inning to pull within 10-9, but that would be as close as they got as the Tigers held on for the win.
Griffin Jax (1-4, 4.76) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in his four innings of work in which he struck out three and walked one.
The Rays will look to bounce back when they meet in the middle game of the three game series on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
