The Cleveland Guardians beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 on Thursday afternoon in Cleveland. With the win, the Guardians took a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series.
The Guardians got on the board in the second inning when Nathaniel Lowe hit a RBI double to make it 1-0. The Ryas answered in the fourth when Chandler Simpson hit a two-run triple that made it 2-1. It would be Cleveland coming through with the big hit in this one, though, as Petey Halpin hit a two-run homer to make it a 3-2 advantage for the Guardians, which would prove to be the final score.
Griffin Jax (0-1, 6.00) took the loss for the Rays in this one. After pitching four innings of one-run ball, he allowed the homer to Halpin with no out in the fifth before being pulled by manager Kevin Cash. Jax finished with three earned runs on five hits in four plus innings of work in which he struck out two and walked two. Gavin Williams (2-0, 2.16) was the winning pitcher for Cleveland, allowing two earned runs on two hits in five innings in which he struck out nine and walked one.
