The Tampa Bay Rays (91-59) defeated the Athletics (61-90) 2-1 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. With the win, the Rays have now won four in a row, and it was Junior Caminero's second walk-off homer in less than a week.
The Rays got on the board in the second thanks to a passed ball that allowed Chandler Simpson to score. Then in the sixth, Ty Johnson threw a wild pitch that allowed an As run to come across to tie the game 1-1. That would be the score until the ninth inning, when Junior Caminero hit his 41st home run to end the game with the Rays on top 2-1. Caminero also hit a walk-off homer on Friday night against the Astros, in a win that clinched a playoff spot for Tampa Bay.
Griffin Jax got the start and pitched five shutout innings in which he allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking none. Bryan Baker (3-2, 1.52) got the win for the Rays after working a perfect top of the ninth inning in a scoreless tie.
The Rays and As will now meet in the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday night. Nick Martinez (14-4, 2.92) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Brady Brasso (1-2, 3.86) for the As. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
