The Detroit Tigers (24-38) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (36-22) 8-0 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. It was the first time this season the Rays have been shut out at home, and the first time they've lost a series at home to an American League team this year.
Jack Flaherty (1-7, 5.31) pitched five shutout innings to get the win for Detroit before Enmanuel De Jesus earned a four-inning save by pitching four shutout innings. The Tigers offensively got to Steven Matz (4-3, 5.48) for five earned runs in just one and two-third innings of work. Detroit got two in the first and three in the second to key the win - they added two in the sixth and one in the seventh to turn the game into a blowout.
The Rays will now look to avoid being swept when meet the Tigers in the finale on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
