The Tampa Bay Rays (25-12) defeated the Boston Red Sox (16-22) 8-4 on Thursday night at Fenway Park. With the win, the Rays have now won seven straight games.
The Rays got three in the top of the second, before the Red Sox answered with three in the bottom of the second. Tampa Bay broke the tie with two in the sixth before getting a single run in the eighth and two in the ninth to pull away. Yandy Diaz, Junior Caminero, Jonny DeLuca, Ben Williamson and Chandler Simpson each had two hits to power the Rays offense.
For Yandy, he now has 1000 hits in his MLB career, becoming the 20th Cuban-born player to reach the milestone. Griffin Jax got the start and allowed three runs - two of them earned - on four hits in his four innings of work in which he struck out three and walked one. Hunter Biggie (1-0, 2.77) got the win out of the bullpen.
The Rays will look to win an eighth straight game when they meet the Red Sox in the second game of the four-game series on Friday night.
