The Tampa Bay Rays (23-12) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (16-20) 4-3 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. With the win, the Rays have won the series against their division rival, and now have won their last five straight games.
The Blue Jays got single runs in the first and the second inning to build an early 2-0 lead. The Rays rallied to tie it with single runs in the third and fourth inning. Toronto took the lead back in the fifth and would lead the game 3-2 going into the eighth inning.
In the eighth inning, the Rays put together a rally that would prove to be the difference. Yandy Diaz hit a RBI single to tie the game 3-3, before Ben Williamson hit a RBI single to give the Rays a 4-3 lead that would prove to be the final score.
Drew Rasmussen got the start and allowed three earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work in which he struck out five and walked one. Casey Legumina (1-1, 3.52) got the win after working the eighth inning, before Cole Sulser worked the ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season.
The Rays will now try to sweep the Blue Jays when they meet in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620 your Home of Rays Baseball.
