Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase appeared to spit at Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey during an incident that resulted in Ramsey punching at him and being ejected during Sunday's (November 17) game between the two AFC North Division rivals.
Footage shared by FOX 19 news photographer Austin Briski showed a clearer, field-level view of the incident, which appears to contradict Chase's postgame claim that he "didn't spit on nobody."
The incident took place at the beginning of the fourth quarter with the Steelers ahead, 34-12, during their eventual win. Officials appeared to miss the apparent spitting incident that resulted in Ramsey throwing a punch, with the cornerback being ejected and Chase remaining in the game.
āHe spit on me. So, itās up," Ramsey said via SteelersNow.com's Brendan Howe. "I donāt give a f**k about football after that. Respectfully.
Chase, who finished Sunday's game with three receptions for 30 yards on 10 targets, denied having spit on Ramsey, instead claiming they were "exchanging words" prior to being punched.
"I ain't never opened my mouth to that guy," Chase said via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles. "... I didn't spit on nobody."
The first-place Steelers improved to 6-4 following Sunday's win, while the third-place Bengals dropped to 3-7.
