The Tampa Bay Rays (75-78) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (89-64) 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field to salvage the split of the four-game series between AL-East rivals.
Chandler Simpson hit a two-run single in the second to get the scoring started, before Brandon Lowe added a RBI single to make it 3-0. Then in the sixth inning, Carson Williams hit a solo homer to make it 4-0, which would prove to be the final score.
Shane Baz (10-12, 4.99) got the win pitching five shutout innings in which he struck out four and walked one. A bullpen combination of Griffin Jax, Kevin Kelly, Garrett Cleavinger and Bryan Baker pitched the final four innings to secure the shutout.
The Rays will now host the Red Sox for the final home series of the season beginning on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
