The Detroit Tigers (58-34) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (49-42) 5-1 on Monday night in Detroit.
Javier Baez hit a two-run homer in the second to get the scoring started early for Detroit. The Rays got their only run in the third inning on a RBI single from Jonathan Aranda in which Danny Jansen was thrown out trying to go first to third on the play.
Riley Greene hit a RBI single in the fifth, before the Tigers got two solo homers - from Colt Keith and Zach McKinstry - in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Shane Baz (8-4, 4.34) allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking two in the losing effort.
The Rays look to bounce back in the middle game of a three-game series coming up on Tuesday. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
