The Tampa Bay Rays (16-18) defeated the New York Yankees (19-15) 7-5 on Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. With the win, the Rays won the three-game series against their divisional rival.
The Rays got single runs in the first and second before breaking through with a three-run fourth inning to build a 5-0 lead. After the Yankees got two back in the sixth, the Rays answered with two huge insurance runs in the seventh to make it 7-2. Those runs would prove huge after New York scored three in the eighth to make it 7-5, but that would be as close as the Yankees would get.
Taj Bradley (3-2, 4.43) allowed two earned runs in his five and one-third innings of work in which he struck out one and walked three. Pete Fairbanks struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save of the season.
The Rays are now off on Monday before beginning a three-game divisional series against the Phillies beginning on Tuesday. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on Tuesday night. You can hear the game on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
