Blue Jays Top Rays Again

The Toronto Blue Jays (44-33) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (40-37) 9-2 on Friday afternoon at Rogers Center in Toronto.

The Rays took an early lead thanks to a RBI groundout from Rene Pinto but the Blue Jays answered with a five-run third inning. Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, and Alejandro Kirk all had RBI doubles to break the game open, and the Blue Jays never looked back.

Though the Rays got a RBI from Harold Ramirez to make it 5-2 in the fifth, the Blue Jays added three more in the six and one in the seventh to ensure the rout.

Yourdes Gurriel Jr went 3-for-3 with a RBI, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 1-for-5 with 3 RBI to set the pace for the Rays offense.

Corey Kluber (3-5, 3.91) only through 49 pitches, running into struggles in the third inning. He finished the day with three innings pitched, allowing five earned runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out one.

The Rays and Blue Jays now meet in a split doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 12:07 PM, with the night game set to begin at 6:07 PM. Pregame coverage for the day begins with Neil Solondz at 11:30 AM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
