Minnesota School Bus Driver Shot In Road Rage Incident

A minor accident involving a school bus and another vehicle on a snowy Minnesota highway turned into a dangerous situation when an angry driver opened fire on the school bus. Officials said that there was one student on the bus when the driver pulled over onto the shoulder following the fender bender. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 31-year-old Kenneth Lilly, got out of his car and walked toward the bus with his gun drawn. He opened fire, shooting into the bus and striking the bus driver. Within minutes, Minnesota State Patrol troopers arrived and were able to detain Lilly near his car at gunpoint.

“This raises immense concern on so many levels. The fact that someone is shooting into a school bus, the fact that you’re on a freeway where you have vehicles that are literally stranded because of the weather. You don’t have a clear backdrop for any of these round. This is mind-numbing,” Minneapolis Police Spokesperson John Elder told WCCO.

The bus driver was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries. The student, who was sitting in the back of the bus at the time, was unharmed during the terrifying incident.

Lilly was taken into custody and is facing a charge of second-degree assault.
