A University of Central Florida football player faces allegations of sexual battery to a physically helpless person, according to authorities.
Demetreius Mayes, 18, a freshman linebacker for the UCF Knights, is accused of raping a woman in a dorm room Saturday night, investigators said.
According to incident accounts, Mayes met the woman at an off-campus party and she claimed that she woke up in a dorm room on campus as she was being assaulted.
Authorities said some of Mayes' team mates told detectives they saw him taking the woman to his room and tried to stop him.
Detectives said Mayes told them that the woman consented to having sex.
Investigators contended, however, that the woman was too intoxicated at the time of the alleged incident to make a coherent decision.
Officials with UCF said that Mayes had been suspended from the football team indefinitely.
