Florida High Court Boots Charter School Amendment

A major win for public schools and the League of Women Voters as the Florida Supreme Court decides Amendment 8 will not appear on the ballot in November.

Prop 8 would have allowed new charter schools to be created without the consent of the local school board.

But League of Women Voters lawyer Ron Meyer says that change was concealed by the language of the amendment.

"Why did they hide the fact, why did they come in with this cutesy language?" he asked.

The High Court struck amendment 8 from the ballot without issuing a formal opinion... that will come later.

But they wanted their decision made public before the absentee ballots are printed.
