Democrats are piling on Republican Adam Putnam over the issue of guns.
A year ago, the Agriculture Commissioner described himself as a "proud NRA sellout."
But State Representative Janet Cruz of Tampa says it was Putnam's office that issued almost 300 concealed weapon permits to people who didn't pass the background check.
"The level of mismanagement, incompetence, and negligence that we've seen at Adam Putnam's Department of Agriculture has been horrifying and absolutely unprecedented," she said.
Putnam's agency investigated the screw up and they say it's been fixed.
Cruz and others, including Congressman Ted Deutch and a survivor of the Pulse shooting have called for an independent investigation.
