A Lake County sheriff's deputy shot and killed an alligator after the animal chased a girl up a tree.
Multiple published reports say a 15-year-old girl was on a raft in Astor Friday when the 10-to-11-foot alligator approached her. The girl couldn't make it to shore, so she climbed a tree to get away from the animal. Her mother called 911. The girl was in the tree for about 30 minutes.
When deputies arrived, one of them fired a single shot from a rifle and killed the alligator. The girl was not hurt.
