Florida Jobless Numbers Steady

The jobless rate for Florida continues to present a familiar picture, and not a bad one at all.

The U-S Labor Department says Florida's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 3-point-9 percent, and Cissy Proctor at the Department of Economic Opportunity says that number hasn't changed since September.

"We've got another month of low unemployment, and the labor force is growing," she said. "So, those are all good indicators that the economy is strong; that people who are looking for jobs are finding jobs."

Florida added 96-hundred new jobs in April, all told.

The biggest gains were in hospitality, manufacturing and professional services.

But thousands of jobs were lost in wholesale trade, education, recreation and finance.

One thing did change for Florida in the larger picture.

For more than a year, the Sunshine State's unemployment rate has been lower than the national average.

The national rate, however, fell in April even as Florida's rate held steady; so the two came out essentially even.
