Congressional Lineups Are Set

The deadline to sign up for the US House and Senate campaigns in Florida has come... and gone.

The deadline passed Friday, setting the shape of the upcoming elections.

There was a small crowd of political insiders at the Division of Elections when that announcement was made and there were no real surprises in the line-up.

Representatives Kathy Castor of  Congressional District 14 and Lois Frankel of District 21, both Democrats, are unopposed and will be automatically re-elected.

Every other incumbent who is running for re-election drew opposition.

Two Democrats, incumbent Val Demings and challenger Wade Darius, signed up for District 10 in Orlando.

Democrats will hold the District 10 seat, no matter who wins the primary, because there are no Republicans running.

Democrats will also retain control of Congressional District 24.

Incumbent Frederica Wilson is being challenged by Ricardo De La Fuente in the Democratic primary and there are no Republicans running in that district, either.

Rick Scott will face a GOP primary opponent in the US Senate race.

Bill Nelson, on the Democratic side of the ticket, faces no opposition from within his party.
