Teresa Jacobs Announces Bid for School Board Chair

Orange County mayor Teresa Jacobs, term-limited from running for her current post again, announced Tuesday that she was setting her sights on a new post: chair of the Orange County School Board.

Jacobs said during a Tuesday afternoon press conference that the decision might be considered a surprise move, but she said her experience as Orange County's mayor gave her the skills necessary to helm the school district ... which is the fourth-largest in the state.

Jacobs added that she had a working knowledge of the system, thanks to her service as a delegate on several Orange County Public Schools.

Jacobs joins a field where three other candidates have filed.

One candidate, Nancy Robbinson, already represents district 6 of the school board and has been endorsed by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

There will be an August election to see which candidate gets the majority of the votes.

If  nobody gets more than 50 percent, then the top vote-getters will face a November run-off election.
