Another Success for SpaceX

posted by Alan McBride -

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully delivered its payload into Earth orbit Monday afternoon.

In this case, the payload was a Dragon capsule packed with better than 5,000 pounds of supplies and science experiments for the International Space Station.

Launch took place at the opening of the Monday afternoon window, and SpaceX officials said everything about the lift-off and climb to orbit was textbook.

The only divergence from the profiles of previous Falcon missions was the fact that there was no landing or recovery of the first stage.

While the stage did have a deceleration burn take place, that was part of a suite of experimental maneuvers programmed for the booster, according to the SpaceX launch and flight control commentators.

SpaceX officials said there had been no plans for a booster recovery this time.
